William Poehner is a personal growth facilitator/trainer that has a passion for sharing Nonviolent Communication and is a register Certified Trainer Candidate with the Center for Nonviolent Communication and is currently Psychology major at the Western institute for Social Research. He grew up in a bilingual (Spanish/English) family, living his early childhood in a working class neighborhood in Cali, Colombia. He migrated to New York City as a young child, then moved to the metropolitan area of Los Angeles, where he became familiar with the struggles of disadvantaged adolescents in compacted neighborhoods. As a result he elected self-education and apprenticeship with practitioners and leaders in communication and personal growth. With Selwa Said he trained in Effective Communication and Relationship Building. He also studied directly with Marshall Rosenberg, the designer of Nonviolent Communication. William became part of the Leadership Team for the Center for Nonviolent Communication. Currently he is the executive director of Comienzos, a nonprofit organization that offers therapeutic and education services at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has served both adolescent and adult populations, in Spanish and in English.
